New: Twinmotion 2023.2

News | October 25, 2023

Twinmotion 2023.2 is available starting today! Anyone who activated their Twinmotion license less than a year ago will see this version automatically appear in their Epic Games Launcher.

We list below the new features you can find in Twinmotion 2023.2.

What are the new features of Twinmotion 2023.2?

Lumen dynamic global illumination and reflections:
Thanks to the Lumen system, scenes are now illuminated in real time with Global Illumination. For example, this changes the angle of the sun with the time of day, or changes the incidence of light by opening a door. Thus you reach a whole new level of realism with Twinmotion!

Turn on the Lumen option in the Ambience panel under Render. For this, under Preferences under Quality must be set to High or Ultra.

Support local exposure:
There is even more new in terms of lighting in Twinmotion; there is now support for local lighting. This mimics the way your eyes react to different light conditions. Details in shadows and highlights are preserved this way. This new support is especially useful for scenes with a high dynamic range such as scenes with dark interiors and bright exteriors.

Animated file import (early access):
Files with animated objects can now be imported into Twinmotion. The current supported file formats for this are FBX, GLTF and GLB. This feature allows you to use both your own animations and Sketchfab’s animated files.
Thanks to this early access, you can now test your workflows and provide feedback to Twinmotion. To import animation files, open the Import panel and select Animation.

Hierarchy when importing Sketchfab assets:
In earlier versions of Twinmotion, Sketchfab assets were imported only in collapsed mode. In this new release, Sketchfab resources (if created in multiple parts) are imported by default as multiple meshes in a hierarchy mode.

Support for Adobe Substance 3D material:
In the new version of Twinmotion, it is now possible to import parametric materials from Adobe Substance 3D in the SBSAR file format and save them to the library. These can be materials you created yourself in Substance Designer, or materials from one of the many material libraries. Visible parameters can be edited in the Properties panel. Textures are generated instantly when adjustments are made.

Automotive White Studio template:
The new White Studio template is ideal for when you use Twinmotion for autovisualization. This template contains a number of predefined shots, so you can simply replace items in your model.

Easier and faster scene creation:
This release includes two new features that make writing a scene faster and easier. Thus, you can now paint and distribute many more types of assets, including Sketchfab, Quixel, User Library and most Twinmotion library assets. This way you can dress your scene in record speed. In addition, Twinmotion now includes the ability to preview the media camera view.

WebVR Support for Panorama Sets:
This new support allows your stakeholders, anywhere in the world, to launch and navigate Panorama Sets with full immersion from tethered or untethered VR headsets.

Improvements existing features:
In addition to all the new features mentioned above, there have also been improvements to current features. You’ll find in this new version path-traced transparency for water materials, improved water particles for rainy and snowy scenes and an optimized clear glass material for faster renderings, among other things.
